first_imgIncluding the protection approachesand right of way, the Agana flyover will be 436.90 meters long. Work will last for 24 months, saidFruto. The Department of Public Works andHighways (DPWH) Region 6 alerted the public about the temporary trafficcongestion at the junction of the Felix Gorriceta Avenue and Sen. Benigno S.Aquino Jr. Avenue. The Aganan flyover has a budget ofP560 million, said Assistant Regional Director Jose Al Fruto. “We have to move quickly to solvetraffic congestion which irks drivers, commuters and tourists. We must preventbeing compared to Metro Manila and Cebu City in terms of the gravity oftraffic. It will not be good for the image of the city that we have worked hardon for several years,” said Drilon. Drilon initiated the construction ofthe Sen. Benigno S. Aquino Jr. Avenue and the President Corazon Aquino Avenueduring the administration of President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III. Theynow serve as main gateways to Iloilo City, easing traffic congestion. Thesetwo have an initial fund of P180 million each. Fruto said work on the Jibao-an andBuhang flyovers will start in the later part of 2020. The highways have become commercialstrips dotted by new hotels and business establishments.  The 10-lane, 15-kilometer Sen. BenignoAquino Jr. Avenue serves as the main thoroughfare from Iloilo City to theIloilo Airport in Cabatuan, Iloilo. The two flyovers aim to ease trafficcongestion in the two barangays which are major gateways to Iloilo City and theIloilo Airport in Cabatuan, Iloilo. On the other hand, private vehiclesfrom the Iloilo Airport and central towns of Iloilo that would like to go toMandurriao or Molo districts in Iloilo City and or vice versa are advised topass via the Oton – San Jose, Santa Barbara Road (Bangga Dama, Santa Barbara –Bangga San Jose, San Miguel – left turn to Iloilo City ALEOSAN Road towardsHibao-an, Mandurriao, Iloilo City). Ilonggo senator Franklin Drilonlobbied for these flyovers. DPWH has two more flyover projectsthis year – in Barangay Jibao-an, Pavia going to Mandurriao, Iloilo City; andat the intersection of the national highway and President Corazon Aquino Avenuein Barangay Buhang, Jaro. “While traffic is a sign ofdevelopment, we cannot let it continue as it will affect our reputation as oneof the few livable cities in the country, as well as our bid to make Iloilo aMICE destination,” Drilon said Private vehicles from the IloiloAirport and central towns of Iloilo that would like to go to Jaro, Iloilo Cityand vice versa are advised to pass via the Iloilo-Santa Barbara Road (RizalStreet – Taft Street – Barangay Agutayan – Barangay Cabugao Norte – Tigum,Pavia – Pagsanga-an, Pavia – Tacas, Jaro, Iloilo City). The Ilonggo senator was referring tohis campaign, together with the Department of Tourism, to position Iloilo aspremier destination for meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibits orMICE. However, the rapid rise of Iloilo andthe influx of tourists, Drilon acknowledged, is causing traffic congestionsparticularly during rush hours (from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to7:30 p.m.). A perspective view of the flyover in Brgy. Aganan, Pavia, Iloilo. The contractor is InternationalBuilders Corp. which is also the one currently constructing the P480-million453.70-meter flyover in Barangay Ungka II, Pavia. ILOILO City – The construction of afour-lane flyover in Barangay Aganan, Pavia, Iloilo will start in the first orsecond week of March. The local government of Pavia will beenforcing a traffic rerouting, according to the assistant regional director. Hesaid the four flyovers are all expected to be operational by next year./PNlast_img read more

Instead of flying halfway across the country to play an elimination game at hostile Wrigley Field, the Dodgers head into this NLDS with all of the advantages. They had two days off. They have the home-field edge. And they were able to line up their rotation instead of choosing between Ross Stripling or a bullpen game to try to win the wild-card game. The young Braves have arrived at least one season earlier than expected. But the Dodgers have been here before. That seemed to smooth out down the stretch, in large part due to Manager Dave Roberts turning the batting order almost completely over against right- or left-handed pitchers. The Dodgers have 10 players with OPS marks over .800 and seven who hit at least 21 home runs. The Braves cannot match that firepower and are not expected to have starting shortstop Dansby Swanson due to injury. That opens the door for Culberson to reprise his performance in last fall’s NLCS, when he went 5 for 11 with two doubles and a triple while filling in for an injured Corey Seager. EDGE: DodgersSTARTING PITCHERSBraves: RH Mike Foltynewicz (13-10, 2.85 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 9.9 Ks per 9 IP), RH Anibal Sanchez (7-6, 2.83 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 8.9 Ks per 9 IP), RH Kevin Gausman (11-10, 3.92 ERA, 1.30 WHIP), Julio Teheran (9-9, 3.94 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 8.3 Ks per 9 innings), LH Sean Newcomb (12-9, 3.90 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 8.8 Ks per 9 innings)Dodgers: LH Hyun-Jin Ryu (7-3, 1.97 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 9.7 Ks per 9 innings), LH Clayton Kershaw (9-5, 2.73 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 8.6 Ks per 9 innings), RH Walker Buehler (8-5, 2.62 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 9.9 Ks per 9 innings), LH Rich Hill (11-5, 3.66 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 10.2 Ks per 9 innings)The Dodgers led the National League in overall ERA (3.38) and starters’ ERA (3.19) and they only got better as the season wound down – largely because of the dynamic emergence of Buehler and Ryu’s return to health. Over the final 55 games of the season (including Game 163 on Monday), Dodgers starters had a 2.99 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and went at least six innings 36 times. Game 1 starter Ryu has had a remarkable season at Dodger Stadium (a 1.15 ERA in nine starts there). The Braves’ rotation has been pretty good as well. Their 3.50 ERA was second in the NL to the Dodgers. Newcomb, in particular, came within one out of pitching a no-hitter against the Dodgers in Atlanta in July. EDGE: DodgersBULLPENBraves: RH Dan Winkler (4-0, 3.43, 2 saves, 1.19 WHIP, 10.3 Ks per 9 innings), RH Arodys Vizcaino (2-2, 2.11 ERA, 16 saves, 1.17 WHIP, 9.4 Ks per 9 innings), LH A.J. Minter (4-3, 3.23, 15 saves, 1.29 WHIP, 10.1 Ks per 9 innings), LH Sam Freeman (3-5, 4.29 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 10.4 Ks per 9 innings), LH Jesse Biddle (6-1, 3.11 ERA, 1 save, 1.27 WHIP, 9.5 Ks per 9 innings), RH Brad Brach (2-4, 3.59 ERA, 12 saves, 1.60 WHIP combined with Braves and Orioles), LH Jonny Venters (5-2, 3.67 ERA, 3 saves, 1.22 WHIP combined with Braves and Rays), RH Shane Carle (4-1, 2.86 ERA, 1 save, 1.22 WHIP)Dodgers: RH Kenley Jansen (1-5, 3.01 ERA, 38 saves, 0.99 WHIP, 10.3 Ks per 9 innings, LH Scott Alexander (2-1, 3.68 ERA, 3 saves, 1.27 WHIP, 7.6 Ks per 9 innings), RH Josh Fields (2-2, 2.20 ERA, 0.95 WHIP), RH Pedro Baez (4-3, 2.88 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 9.9 Ks per 9 innings), RH Kenta Maeda (8-10, 3.81 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 11.0 Ks per 9 innings), LH Alex Wood (9-7, 3.68 ERA, 1.21 WHIP), LH Caleb Ferguson (7-2, 3.49 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 10.8 Ks per 9 innings), RH Dylan Floro (6-3, 2.25 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 8.2 Ks per 9 innings combined with Reds and Dodgers)The company line among the Dodgers’ decision-makers is that other than a couple “hiccups” (including a horrific stretch of five consecutive losses following Jansen’s irregular heartbeat episode) the bullpen has been very good. The truth is they searched all season for replacements for Brandon Morrow and Tony Watson and none have emerged. More disturbing is Jansen’s vulnerability. The Braves, meanwhile, have a fairly pedestrian group that finished 10th in the NL in bullpen ERA and seemed taxed at times, particularly when Vizcaino spent two months on the DL with a sore shoulder. Vizcaino made just six appearances after returning in mid-September, allowing three runs in 5-2/3 innings. EDGE: DodgersBENCHBraves: IF-OF Culberson, C Flowers, IF Ryan Flaherty (.217, 2 HRs, 13 RBIs), OF Adam Duvall (.132, 0 HRs, 0 RBIs), 1B Lucas Duda (.222, 1 HR, 2 RBIs)Dodgers: C Austin Barnes (.205, 4 HRs, 14 RBIs), OF Chris Taylor (.254, 17 HRs, 63 RBIs), 2B Brian Dozier (.215, 21 HRs, 72 RBIs combined between Twins and Dodgers), OF Matt Kemp (.290, 21 HRs, 85 RBI), IF David Freese (.296, 11 HRs, 51 RBIs)The Dodgers have uncommon positional flexibility in players like Taylor, Hernandez and Bellinger, allowing Roberts to search for any advantage in matchups. Freese has been a terrific addition, batting .395 with a 1.130 OPS since being acquired at the end of August. The Braves’ bench takes a big hit with Culberson in the lineup filling in for the injured Swanson. EDGE: DodgersMANAGERBraves manager Brian Snitker led his young team to an unexpected 90-win season. Roberts’ job was much more difficult. He didn’t have his two best players (Corey Seager and Justin Turner) for a large chunk of the season, lost his ace (again) to injury for significant time and had to navigate through the swamp of “World Series hangover” that had the Dodgers 10 games under .500 in mid-May and 4-1/2 games out of first place in late August. Roberts’ willingness to platoon established players like Kemp, Puig and even Bellinger did not go over well at times. But it worked.
