first_imgMay 2, 2018 /Sports News – Local BYU Women’s Golf Commences NCAA Tournament Monday Written by FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailAUSTIN, Texas-Monday, BYU women’s golf, the only women’s program in Utah to make the NCAA Tournament field, commences tournament play at the Austin, Texas region.At the regional, hosted by the University of Texas Golf Club, the Cougars are the #11 seed out of 18 teams, with the Arkansas Razorbacks as the top seed in the regional.The Cougars will also be competing against host Texas, Michigan State, Florida, Auburn, Oklahoma, Houston, Miami (Fla.), Baylor, Texas A&M, East Carolina, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, Texas-San Antonio, Georgetown, Houston Baptist and Missouri State.The Cougars’ collective score is 41, placing them 38 strokes behind Arkansas, and are three-time defending West Coast Conference champions.BYU head coach Carrie Roberts brings an optimistic perspective into the Austin regional, saying she sees a “lot of beatable teams” and the Cougars look forward to competing.The Cougars also received all three major postseason honors from the WCC for the first time in Roberts’ tenure, as senior Kendra Dalton was the WCC’s Player of the Year, Roberts was the coach of the year and Naomi Soifua became the WCC’s Freshman of the Year.
